The same day, every week, from May 1 to November 1
Your lawn is cut on a set weekday and that weekday does not move. It is fixed when you join and it holds for the whole season, May 1 to November 1, which works out at roughly 26 visits. Nobody phones to book it. Nobody sends a confirmation text asking whether this week is still good. You come home on a Thursday and the lawn is done, and that is the entire experience by design.
For a lot of Whitby households that predictability is worth more than anything else on the list, because it is the part that removes the property from your mental load rather than just from your weekend.
What each visit actually involves
Edge first, then mow, then trim. In that order, every time.
Edging first gives the mower a defined line to cut to, so the mower buries the edge as it passes rather than a trimmer having to shave a bare strip afterwards to disguise a missed one. Then the lawn is mown. Then the trimmer finishes the fence line, the tree rings, the light standard, the downspout splash pad and the beds. Last, the driveway, the walk and the porch are blown clean back onto the grass, so the clippings feed the lawn instead of washing into a storm drain on the next rain.
On the older streets in Pringle Creek and Williamsburg, where the canopy is fifty years old, the trimming is genuinely half the job. Shaded turf grows thinner and slower than the sunny half of the same lawn, and the difference between a tidy property and a scruffy one there is almost entirely in the finish work around the mature trees, not in the mowing itself.
Weekly, not biweekly, and why the second week is the expensive one
Most lawn prices advertised in this region are biweekly prices, whether or not the advertisement says so plainly, and the weekly version usually sits on a higher tier with no published number. Northline does not sell a biweekly cut at all, and the reason is mechanical.
A healthy cool season lawn should lose no more than about a third of its blade length in one cut. In late June, on an irrigated lawn on one of the bigger lots north of Winchester in Brooklin, fourteen days of growth is far more than a third. So the biweekly cut has to take the lawn down a long way in a single pass. That does three things, none of them good. The lawn browns at the tips for several days because too much green tissue came off at once. The clipping volume is heavy enough to leave rows and clumps, which then sit on the turf and yellow the grass underneath. And it happens in the hottest stretch of the year, when the plant has the least reserve to recover from it.
Thin, stressed turf in July is what produces the bare patches people start pricing overseeding for in September. A weekly cut takes a small amount off often, drops clippings fine enough to disappear, and holds the lawn at one height all summer.
One payment, twelve times a year, covering both seasons
Northline bills a membership in twelve equal payments, taken on the last day of the month. The amount is the same in May as it is in February. It covers the weekly lawn season and the snow season in one agreement, with one company.
Run the comparison properly before deciding it costs more. Take the per cut price you have been quoted, multiply it by 26, and that is your summer. Then add a separate winter contract, because the company cutting your grass per cut is not clearing snow for nothing in January. Now put that total beside twelve payments of $129 plus HST, which is $1,548 a year for Silver and covers both halves of the year.
The tiers are Silver $129 a month, Gold $189 a month and Platinum $279 a month, all plus HST, all on the same twelve payment schedule. Paying the year up front saves 5 percent: $1,470.60, $2,154.60 or $3,180.60.
There is also the paperwork, which nobody costs and everybody deals with. A per cut arrangement means a different amount every month, a run of invoices to check, and a dispute waiting somewhere in August about whether a particular week happened. Twelve identical payments give you one number to recognize and eleven others that have to match it.
The three memberships
Silver, $129 a month plus HST
Weekly lawn care all season on your set day, edge then mow then trim, hard surfaces blown clean. Through winter Silver covers the windrow, the compacted ridge the municipal plow pushes across the foot of your driveway, cleared on a separate daytime pass by 5 PM. Silver does not include clearing the driveway itself. It suits a household that can handle its own driveway but wants the worst of it dealt with and the lawn run properly.
Gold, $189 a month plus HST
Everything Silver covers, and in winter the whole driveway is cleared against a 7 AM target after overnight snow. On the newer, tighter driveways across Rolling Acres and Taunton North, where there is nowhere convenient to put the snow by February, this is the tier most households settle on.
Platinum, $279 a month plus HST
Everything in Gold, sequenced first with a 6:30 AM target, unlimited automatic salting through the season, and first choice of service day in summer. Platinum also carries the seasonal fertilizer program, which on the other two tiers is a paid add on at $300 to $600 a season. Fertilizer is never part of the weekly lawn visit on any tier. On Platinum it is a separate program whose cost already sits inside the monthly payment.
Whitby neighbourhoods on the route
The route is drawn geographically and kept tight. In Whitby that covers Brooklin, Pringle Creek, Lynde Creek, Port Whitby, Williamsburg, Rolling Acres, Blue Grass Meadows and Taunton North.
They are not the same lawns. Brooklin lots run larger and many of them are open and full sun, so growth is fast and consistent and the mowing is the bulk of the work. Pringle Creek and Williamsburg are shaded and mature, with more edges, more beds and more trimming per visit. Port Whitby and the streets nearest Lynde Creek sit close enough to the lake that the season tails off a little later in November than it does at the top of town. The route is built to account for that rather than to treat every property as the same twenty minutes.
Paid add ons, quoted before any of it starts
None of these is part of the weekly visit and none is ever carried out without being priced and agreed first.
- Mulch supply and installation: $110 per yard installed
- Hedge and shrub trimming: $85 an hour, two hour minimum
- Garden bed maintenance: $75 an hour
- Core aeration: $110 to $220 by lot size
- Fertilizer program: $300 to $600 a season, included on Platinum only
Tree work above ladder height, irrigation repair, hardscaping, sod and grading are referred out. Northline does not sell them and will not quote them.
Who you are hiring
Owner operated. The person who looks at your property is the person who cuts it every week, which is why the service day holds and why nothing appears on a bill that was not discussed. Fully insured and HST registered.
Hours are Monday to Friday 7 AM to 7 PM and Saturday 7 AM to 5 PM, closed Sunday. Messages are answered the same day Monday to Saturday. A Sunday inquiry is answered first thing Monday.

Lawn care in Whitby: common questions
How much is lawn care in Whitby?
Northline lawn care in Whitby and Brooklin starts at $129 a month plus HST on the Silver membership, billed in twelve equal payments on the last day of each month. Gold is $189 a month and Platinum is $279 a month. The payment is the same all twelve months and covers both the lawn season and the snow season.
Do you cut lawns in Brooklin?
Yes. Brooklin is on the Whitby route, along with Pringle Creek, Lynde Creek, Port Whitby, Williamsburg, Rolling Acres, Blue Grass Meadows and Taunton North. Brooklin lots tend to be larger and more open, so mowing is the bulk of the visit there, while the older shaded neighbourhoods take more trimming time.
Is the lawn service weekly or biweekly?
Weekly, on the same day every week, May 1 to November 1, which is roughly 26 visits. Northline does not offer biweekly cutting. Two weeks of June growth cannot be removed in one pass without taking far more than a third of the blade, which browns the lawn and leaves clumps of clippings on the turf.
What order do you work in on a lawn visit?
Edge, then mow, then trim. Edging first gives the mower a clean line to bury, and trimming last finishes the fence lines, tree rings and beds. Hard surfaces are blown clean at the end so the clippings stay on the lawn.
Does the same membership cover snow in Whitby?
Yes, in one monthly payment. Silver clears the windrow at the end of the driveway on a daytime pass by 5 PM and does not clear the driveway itself. Gold and Platinum include full driveway clearing, with a 7 AM target on Gold and a 6:30 AM target on Platinum.

Lawn maintenance and grass cutting in Whitby
Lawn maintenance in Whitby and lawn care in Whitby are searched almost exactly as often as each other, and they mean the same thing here: a weekly visit on a fixed day, inside a flat monthly payment. Grass cutting in Whitby is the visible part of it and lawn mowing in Whitby is what most people call it, but the visit is three jobs, not one. Edge, then mow, then trim.
Hedge trimming in Whitby is quoted separately and so is anything else outside the weekly cut, always before the work starts. Those sit on the add ons page.
From November 1 the membership carries snow removal in Whitby instead, at the same monthly figure.

Why do you cut so high?
Because on Ontario clay a lawn cut short in July is a lawn growing crabgrass in August. Short grass lets light reach the soil surface, and light at the soil surface is the one thing crabgrass seed is waiting for. Cutting high shades it out, keeps the roots deeper and gets the lawn through a dry spell that would otherwise brown it off. It is the single setting that changes the most and it costs nothing.
One of these goes on each page and it is replaced monthly. If the question you have is not here, ask it: 905-244-5779.
