Green in summer. Clear in winter.

Most properties are priced from the map. A real number the same day, no sales visit.

One flat payment, twelve times a year, instead of a summer of invoices

Northline is a membership, not a per cut service. You pay the same amount twelve times a year, taken on the last day of the month, and that one payment covers the weekly lawn season and the snow season together. It does not climb in June because the grass is growing and it does not disappear in February because it was a mild winter.

That is the whole proposition, and it is worth doing the arithmetic on it rather than taking anybody's word for it. Take whatever per cut figure you have been quoted and multiply it by 26, because 26 weekly visits is what a full lawn season in Ajax runs to, May 1 to November 1. That number is your summer, on its own. Then add a winter contract underneath it, because the crew billing you per cut is not clearing your driveway in January as a favour.

Set that beside Silver at $129 a month plus HST. Twelve payments of $129 is $1,548 a year before tax, and it buys the lawn season and the winter in the same agreement. Gold is $189 a month, Platinum is $279 a month, on the same twelve payment schedule. Prepaying the year saves 5 percent: $1,470.60, $2,154.60 or $3,180.60.

And then there is the part nobody prices. A per cut arrangement produces a different bill every month and a pile of them by October, each one of which you have to actually read to know whether it is right. Twelve identical payments give you one figure to recognize. If one of them ever looks wrong, it is obvious, because it is the one that does not match the other eleven.

Weekly, on the same day, every week

Your lawn gets a set weekday and it keeps it for the whole season. It is fixed when you join and it does not rotate around the route. There is nothing to book, nothing to confirm and no text message asking whether Tuesday still works.

Platinum members get first choice of service day. Everyone else is assigned a day that fits the route geographically, which is what keeps the route on schedule instead of criss crossing Durham Region all afternoon.

Edge, then mow, then trim

Every visit runs in that order and the order is deliberate.

The edges are cut first, which gives the mower a defined line to work to and lets the mowing pass bury that line as it goes. The alternative, which is how a lot of crews work, is to mow first and then chase a tidy edge with a trimmer afterwards, which scalps a narrow strip of turf along every walkway and leaves a pale band that takes two weeks to green up.

Then the lawn is mown. Then the trimmer finishes everything a mower deck cannot reach: fence lines, tree rings, the hydro pole, the mailbox post, the downspout splash pads, the edges of the beds. Last, the driveway, the walk and the porch are blown clean, back onto the lawn rather than into the gutter, so the clippings stay where they do some good.

Why we will not sell you a biweekly cut

Most advertised lawn prices in Durham Region are biweekly prices, and the weekly version, where it exists at all, tends to sit on a higher tier that nobody publishes. Northline does not run a biweekly service.

The reason is that a cool season lawn should lose no more than about a third of its blade in any single cut. In the first half of July, on a watered lawn in Applecroft or Salem Heights, fourteen days of growth is a long way past a third. So the biweekly cut has to drop the mower a long way to finish at a normal height, and three things follow. The lawn browns at the tips for the best part of a week, because too much green tissue came off in one pass. The clippings come off heavy enough to leave rows and clumps, which then smother the turf sitting under them. And all of this lands in the hottest two weeks of the year, when the plant has the least in reserve to recover with.

That is how a lawn gets thin in August. Thin turf in August is what most people are looking at when they start pricing overseeding in September. A weekly cut takes a little off often, drops clippings fine enough to vanish, and holds one consistent height from April to November.

The three memberships

Silver, $129 a month plus HST

Weekly lawn care on your set day through the season, edge then mow then trim, hard surfaces blown clean. In winter Silver covers the windrow, the packed ridge the municipal plow leaves across the foot of your driveway, on a separate daytime pass by 5 PM. Silver does not include clearing the driveway itself. It is the right tier for a household that can clear its own driveway but wants the heaviest part taken off it and the lawn run properly all summer.

Gold, $189 a month plus HST

Everything Silver covers, plus full driveway clearing in winter against a 7 AM target after overnight snow. On the newer streets around Audley and Discovery Bay, where driveways are short and there is very little room left to pile snow by February, Gold is the tier most households land on.

Platinum, $279 a month plus HST

Everything in Gold, sequenced first with a 6:30 AM target, unlimited automatic salting through the winter, and first choice of service day in the lawn season. Platinum also includes the seasonal fertilizer program, which on Silver and Gold is a paid add on at $300 to $600 a season. Fertilizer is never part of the weekly lawn visit on any tier. It is a separate program with its own schedule, and on Platinum its cost already sits inside the monthly payment.

Ajax neighbourhoods on the route

Northline cuts across Pickering Village, Pickering Beach, Westney Heights, Applecroft, Salem Heights, Discovery Bay, Clover Ridge and Audley.

Those are not interchangeable properties. Pickering Village is the old part of town: irregular lots, mature canopy, a lot of finish work around trees and beds and far less open turf than the acreage suggests. Westney Heights and Clover Ridge are established, generously sized and mostly full sun, which means fast, even growth and a mowing led visit. The east side, through Salem Heights and Audley, is newer construction on thinner builder topsoil, where cutting height and not scalping the crown matters more than most homeowners are told. And down at Pickering Beach and Discovery Bay the lake keeps things growing a little later into November than they do north of the 401.

The route is built to respect that rather than to treat every lawn as the same twenty minutes.

Paid add ons, quoted before anything begins

None of these is part of the weekly visit, and none of them happens without being priced and agreed first.

  • Mulch supply and installation: $110 per yard installed
  • Hedge and shrub trimming: $85 an hour, two hour minimum
  • Garden bed maintenance: $75 an hour
  • Core aeration: $110 to $220 depending on lot size
  • Fertilizer program: $300 to $600 a season, included on Platinum only

Tree work above ladder height, irrigation repair, hardscaping, sod and grading are referred out rather than sold. If that is what you need, we will point you at somebody who does it properly.

Who actually turns up

Owner operated. The person who quotes your property is the person cutting it every week. That is why the day holds, why nothing appears on a bill that was never discussed, and why there is one phone number rather than a dispatch queue. Northline is fully insured and HST registered.

Hours are Monday to Friday 7 AM to 7 PM and Saturday 7 AM to 5 PM. Sunday is closed. Messages are answered the same day Monday to Saturday, and a Sunday inquiry is answered first thing Monday.

Lawn care in Ajax: common questions

How much does lawn care cost in Ajax?

Northline lawn care in Ajax starts at $129 a month plus HST on the Silver membership, billed in twelve equal payments taken on the last day of each month. Gold is $189 a month and Platinum is $279 a month. The payment is identical every month of the year and covers the weekly lawn season and the snow season together, so there is no separate summer invoice and no separate winter contract.

How many lawn cuts do I get in a season?

Roughly 26. The lawn season in Ajax runs from May 1 to November 1 and visits are weekly, on the same day every week. Platinum members get first choice of service day. There is nothing to book each week and no confirmation required.

Do you mow or trim first?

Edge first, then mow, then trim. Edging first gives the mower a line to bury as it passes, which avoids the pale scalped strip that appears along walkways when a trimmer is used to chase a tidy edge after mowing. Hard surfaces are blown clean at the end so the clippings go back onto the lawn.

Is fertilizer included in the weekly lawn service?

No. Fertilizer is a separate paid program at $300 to $600 a season. It is included only on the Platinum membership, where its cost already sits inside the monthly payment. On Silver and Gold it is an add on that is quoted and agreed before it starts.

Which parts of Ajax do you serve?

Northline serves Pickering Village, Pickering Beach, Westney Heights, Applecroft, Salem Heights, Discovery Bay, Clover Ridge and Audley, along with Whitby, Oshawa, Pickering, Bowmanville, Courtice and Clarington. Service days are assigned geographically and confirmed when you join.

Grass cutting and lawn maintenance in Ajax

Grass cutting in Ajax and lawn care in Ajax are the same weekly visit described two ways. Lawn mowing in Ajax is one of the three jobs inside it, alongside the edging and the trimming, and all three happen on the same day every week.

Lawn maintenance in Ajax outside that weekly visit, from aeration to a one off cleanup, is quoted before it starts and never added to an invoice after the fact. It is listed on the add ons page.

From November 1 the same membership becomes snow removal in Ajax.

Andrew answers, October 2026

Is the fertilizer included?

No, and I would rather say so here than have you find out in May. The five step fertilizer program is a paid add on at $300 to $600 a season, and it is included only on Platinum. The weekly visit is the cut, the trim and the blow down. Anybody describing a weekly lawn service as including a fertilizer program is selling you something nobody has bought.

One of these goes on each page and it is replaced monthly. If the question you have is not here, ask it: 905-244-5779.
