Why a year round membership suits Whitby
Most of the Whitby properties I quote have the same shape to them. A good sized lot, a double or a triple driveway, and a Saturday that is already spoken for by something else. The scarce thing here is the time rather than the money, and width is what eats it: a triple driveway is the better part of an hour with a shovel and a few minutes with a blade.

Where a membership does not pay
Silver at $129 a month plus HST keeps the lawn all summer and, through the winter, lifts the municipal windrow off the foot of the driveway. It does not plow the driveway. What Silver covers, line by line.
And the one that costs me money to say. If the driveway is the whole of what you want and the lawn is already somebody else's job, do not buy a membership for it. A seasonal snow package covers the winter on that driveway on its own, from $800 plus HST, and I will quote you one instead. A membership only earns its price when both halves of the year are mine.
And before you buy anything at all, check whether the Town will do part of it for nothing. Whitby clears the windrow free for residents aged sixty five or over, and for anybody a doctor certifies as unable to clear snow, provided nobody under sixty five lives in the house. Why would a lawn that looks fine in May need aeration?
Because of what is underneath it. On a newer Whitby lot the topsoil was stripped during construction and a thin layer laid back over subsoil that has had loaded trucks standing on it. The grass looks healthy in May and gives up in the third week of July. Core aeration in September and early October opens that up, and it is included on Gold and Platinum.
Can I have the lawn without the snow, or the snow without the lawn?
Yes, and plenty of people do. The membership exists because most households would rather have both handled by the same person on one payment, not because the two are welded together. Weekly mowing on its own starts at $75 a cut plus HST, and a winter of snow clearing on its own starts at $800 plus HST.

Whitby is a town of wide double driveways, which matters more to residential snow removal in Whitby than to anything on the lawn side. In north Oshawa that means MacInally Court, Fleetwood Drive, Clearbrook Drive, Wadebridge Crescent, Iribelle Avenue, Surrey Drive and French Street. Further south it means Harris Avenue, Goodman Drive, Ritson Road South and Athol Street East. There are two commercial sites as well, one of them on King Street West.
Nineteen is not a lot and we are not going to dress it up. It is the first year. What it does mean is that every one of those driveways is on a route somebody can name, and that if your town says open above, you would be the first one on it rather than the last one served. Counted by hand from the client list and re-counted on the day a contract is signed.

Why is your season longer than everybody else's?
Because November and April are when the awkward storms happen, and a season that ends on March 31 ends three weeks before the last one. November 1 to May 1 is six months and both ends of it are published, which is the part that matters: a season you can read is a season you can hold me to.
