Why Courtice is a twelve month job and not two seasonal ones
Clay and clay loam run under Courtice. It holds water, it packs hard under a trailer or a play set, and it is why a big Courtice lot thins out in the same two spots every August. The repair is a September job, and it only happens if somebody is already on the property in July.
The same lot in February is the other half of the job. Spacious lots and long driveways are the Courtice pattern, and they are what make shovelling a poor trade here.
Courtice also sits directly against the Oshawa border, so I cover both sides of Townline on the same run. What that means at your address is that a Courtice property gets the clearing times an Oshawa property gets. You are not at the far end of somebody else's night out here, you are in the middle of it.

Courtice questions
Clay loam, and no spraying allowed. What actually works on a Courtice lawn?
Cut at three inches so the turf shades its own roots. Core aerate from September into early October, because clay loam compacts under a trailer or a play area, and overseed into the holes the same week. Ontario banned cosmetic pesticides in 2009, so that is the whole weed program rather than a preference of mine.
What happens in the weeks between the two seasons?
Nothing is dropped. Lawn season ends November 1 and snow season starts the same day, so the payment does not pause and neither does the work.
Is a membership right for a small Courtice lot?
Often not, and the reason is usually which half you would actually use. If the mowing is twenty minutes and you would sooner do the driveway yourself, you are paying twelve times a year for two jobs and only really buying one. A cleanup bought on its own plus a seasonal snow package comes out cheaper, and I would rather say that on the phone than after you have signed.

In north Oshawa that means MacInally Court, Fleetwood Drive, Clearbrook Drive, Wadebridge Crescent, Iribelle Avenue, Surrey Drive and French Street. Further south it means Harris Avenue, Goodman Drive, Ritson Road South and Athol Street East. There are two commercial sites as well, one of them on King Street West.
Nineteen is not a lot and we are not going to dress it up. It is the first year. What it does mean is that every one of those driveways is on a route somebody can name, and that if your town says open above, you would be the first one on it rather than the last one served. Counted by hand from the client list and re-counted on the day a contract is signed.

Why is the morning clearing time a target rather than a promise?
Because a promise about the morning is a promise about the weather, and nobody can make one of those honestly. What I can promise is where you sit in the route and the order the route runs in, and both of those are published on this site. In eighteen years of Oshawa data the worst winter had twenty four clearing days and the mildest had four, and a promise written to survive the worst of those is a promise priced for it. A target I actually hit is worth more to you than a promise I have quietly priced the risk of breaking.
